Caltrain Conductor Assaulted In Sunnyvale, Suspect Allegedly Refused To Pay Fare

SUNNYVALE (CBS SF) – A man allegedly assaulted a Caltrain conductor in Sunnyvale Friday afternoon after refusing to pay the fare, a transit agency spokeswoman said.

Around 1:30 p.m., transit police were called to the Lawrence station at 137 San Zeno Way where the alleged assault occurred on northbound Caltrain No. 151 heading, Caltrain spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew said.

The conductor said he was fine and did not need medical attention, she said.

The train was held for about 30 minutes for police to catch the suspected fare evader and arrest him, and interview witnesses on the train, Bartholomew said.

The suspect was expected to be booked into county jail, she said.

The train reached San Francisco 40 minutes behind schedule, she said.
