A's Minor Leaguer Sean Murphy Dies At 27 Years Old

MESA (CBS SPORTS) -- Oakland Athletics minor league right-hander Sean Murphy has unexpectedly died, the team announced on Tuesday. He was only 27.

"The A's are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Sean Murphy," said vice president of baseball operations Billy Beane in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends."

No other details were given.

In parts of five minor league seasons, Murphy pitched to a 4.26 ERA in 490 2/3 minor league innings. He was Oakland's 33rd round pick out of Keystone College in the 2010 draft.
