A's Catcher Vogt Takes Over MLB Network Interview Acting Out NBA Ref Persona

OAKLAND (CBS SF) - What was supposed to be an interview between recently-returned Oakland Athletic Jonny Gomes and the hosts of the MLB network show Intentional Talk turned into a showcase for the mimicking genius of catcher Stephen Vogt.

Gomes, a Petaluma native, appeared on the show with hosts Kevin Millar and Chris Rose to talk about his new jersey number and his return to the Bay Area via trade last week in the Yoenis Cespedes deal, but a couple of minutes into the chat, new fan favorite Stephen Vogt - dressed as an NBA ref (plus A's headband and socks) stole the show. The hosts tried to talk Vogt out of the character by talking about the current A's team, but he wouldn't break character, explaining how third baseman Josh Donaldson tries to work him for calls.

"I get paid to do one thing when I'm out there on the court and that's to officiate an NBA basketball game," Vogt said. "That rule book is going to be followed to a T."

Gomes said the first time he saws the impression he was left rolling on the floor of the locker room.

"I had to share this beautiful thing with the world," said Gomes.
