Arson Fire Threatened 2 Apartment Complexes In Concord

CONCORD (CBS SF) -- Police are investigating an arson fire that occurred early Tuesday morning inside the parking lot of a Concord apartment complex.

Around 12:15 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Adelaide Street for a report of a suspicious circumstance, according to Concord police.

The initial report indicated two people were seen running from a parked car. Minutes later, officers learned a fire had started in the same location, police said.

Police, along with firefighters, arrived at the location and discovered several vehicles parked in a parking lot fully engulfed in flames.

The fire was spreading to a carport and threatening two nearby apartment complexes, according to police.

Some residents were issued a temporary evacuation order.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and the evacuation order was lifted, police said.

Police are investigating the incident, along with the Contra Costa County Consolidated Fire District Arson Investigator's Office.
