Antioch Police Department Unveils New App For Public To Report Crime

ANTIOCH (CBS SF) -- Antioch residents have a new crime-fighting tool at their fingertips to instantly communicate with local law enforcement and report suspicious activity.

The "Antioch PD Mobile" app allows users to report crime, receive public safety alerts and tune in to a scanner-like dispatch feed to hear police activity in the area all from a smartphone.

Unveiled at last Tuesday's City Council meeting, the app links to police officers pictures and the department's Twitter and Facebook page in an effort to keep digital lines of communication open and improve public engagement.

BART and the Santa Cruz and Fremont police departments also have similar apps.

The department is also looking for suggestions on improving the app, which was entirely funded by criminal forfeitures.

Residents can download the app for free download on iTunes and GooglePlay.
