Animal Rights Group Offers $5,000 Reward In Central Valley Chicken Massacre
CARUTHERS, Fresno County (CBS SF) -- An animal rights group is offering a $5,000 reward for the information leading to whoever bludgeoned nearly 1,000 chickens to death at a Central Valley processing facility.
The Animal Legal Defense Fund issued the reward offer on Wednesday, a day after it was revealed that 920 chickens were found massacred at the Foster Farms facility near Fresno on September 20.
Police investigators said a golf club and possibly another instrument was used to bludgeon the chickens and that probably more than one person suspect was involved.
It appeared the killers got into the facility on West Swanson Ave. in Caruthers, Fresno County through a hole in the fence.
In California, felony animal cruelty is punishable by up to three years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.
