Fiery Amtrak Crash: Train Hits Vehicle On Tracks In Oakland

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- An Amtrak train headed from Seattle to Los Angeles hit a utility truck stopped on the tracks in Oakland that burst into flames after the collision Thursday morning.

The incident happened at about 8:55 a.m. at E. 10th St. and Fruitvale Ave.

The collision caused the vehicle to burst into flames. Police said there was no one inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. It appeared that belonged to a contractor who parked too close to the tracks.

Amtrak said the the Coast Starlight Train 11 hit was delayed for about an hour following the collision. None of the 111 passengers or crew members were hurt, Amtrak said.

At least 20 firefighters responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.

Amtrak said it was working with Oakland police to investigate the incident.
