Aldon Smith Arrest: 49ers Face Tough Call After More Lack Of Judgment At LAX
Are the 49ers fed up with Aldon Smith? How many times can they take the diplomatic release route?
"We are disappointed to learn of the incident today involving Aldon Smith," 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said in a statement. "As this is a pending legal matter and we are still gathering the pertinent facts, we will have no further comment."
Disappointed? Smith drops a bomb threat at LAX and they're "disappointed?" The folks at that airport just got done evacuating a wing for a previous bomb threat. They're not going to find any humor in Smith's remark and Roger Goodell won't either. It is not a question of if Smith will be suspended. It's a question of how many games. And that was BEFORE he yelled "bomb!"
To be honest, this sounds like case of a person's mounting frustration in which Smith may have felt he was being unfairly targeted and treated and had no idea that yelling "bomb!" in an airport was illegal. The bigger issue here is Smith's judgment, or lack of it.
He might be one of the premier pass rushers in the NFL, but he chronically makes bad decisions about his personal life. Sadly he seems like a train wreck in the making. His latest arrest brings his number of legal battles to three, including assault weapons charges and DUI.
The 49ers thought Smith was on the right track after he entered rehab and seem to get his life back on track. The Los Angeles police said Smith might have been drinking. Whether he drank or not, Smith doesn't appear to be on the right track. Knowing he was already in legal limbo, how did he allow himself to be caught up in this type of scenario?
The 49ers have several options. Release Smith, trade Smith, or keep Smith. The Eagles released DeSean Jackson who had a career year. Why? He wasn't worth the constant headaches anymore. Is Aldon Smith?
