Tony Cardinali Wins County Fair 'Snackdown' With Deep-Fried Wood-Fired Pastrami Pizza

PLEASANTON (CBS SF) -- Deep-Fried Wood Fired Pastrami Pizza took home first place in the Alameda County Fair's second annual Snackdown competition, officials with the fair said Saturday.

The Snackdown took place at the fair's Grandstand stage Friday beginning at 4 p.m.

Tony Cardinali of Cardinali's Family Concessions created the pizza, which consists of deep-fried pizza crust, mozzarella cheese, pastrami, red onions, sauerkraut and mustard sauce, county fair officials said.

Cardinali also won last year with Spaghetti Ice Cream, fair officials said. Cardinali's pizza can be found at his pizza stand near the C building, according to fair officials.

The fair runs from June 17 to July 5 and is being held at the fairgrounds at 4501 Pleasanton Avenue in Pleasanton, according to the fair's website.
