Alameda County Sheriff's Deputy Shoots Robbery Suspect At San Leandro 7-Eleven

SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) -- The Alameda County Sheriff's Office is investigating an early morning deputy-involved shooting in San Leandro, a sheriff's spokesman said.

Deputies responded just before 1:30 a.m. Saturday to a robbery at the 7-Eleven store at the intersection of Fairmont Drive and East 14th Street, sheriff's office spokesman Sgt. J.D. Nelson said.

Deputies arrived at the scene to find two suspects fleeing from the store and heading to a nearby car, Nelson said.

The suspects tried to flee in the car, but a deputy shot one of the suspects after he reached into his waistband, he said.

The other suspect got into the car and drove away, leading deputies on a pursuit that ended in a crash near Industrial Boulevard and State Highway 92 in Hayward, according to Nelson.

Deputies haven't released the names of the suspects.

Nelson said both suspects were hospitalized after the incident, but he wasn't able to provide the conditions of their conditions. One of the suspects was taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, he said.

Nelson added the 7-Eleven store clerk was physically assaulted during the robbery. The clerk suffered minor injuries but did not need to be hospitalized.
