17-Year-Old Accused Of Alameda Burglaries, Sexual Assault To Be Charged As Juvenile

ALAMEDA (CBS SF) – The Alameda County District Attorney's Office said Thursday that it has decided to prosecute a 17-year-old Alameda boy in juvenile court, not adult court, in connection with several burglaries and the sexual assault of a girl.

Because the boy isn't being charged as an adult, prosecutors said they cannot release his name, the charges against him or any other details about his case.

Alameda police said the 17-year-old was arrested on Tuesday and investigators have connected him with as many as five recent burglaries in their city and suspect he might have been involved in more.

Police had been searching for a suspect in the series of burglaries in Alameda's west end for weeks and warned residents to lock their windows and doors.

The search escalated after a parent recently reported that a suspect had cut the screen of their daughter's open bedroom window and sexually assaulted her.

Police increased patrols during the time of the burglaries, which were believed to have occurred in the late night and early morning hours while residents were home, and reviewed surveillance video and evidence from the crime scenes.
