About The Bay: Carrying A Tune At The Castro Theatre's Sing-Alongs

SAN FRANCISO (KCBS)— Most movie theaters encourage quiet, but not when you're at a musical sing-along at the Castro Theatre.

It's in the dark and you're part of a crowd, so it's pretty anonymous singing along to songs from Frozen, The Sound of Music or Grease. It doesn't matter how old you are and you don't have to climb every mountain to get there. Some people just love movies and singing.

There are good singers among the crowd, but a few others may need to go back and take a voice lesson.

One woman said her family hates when she sings out loud at home so she comes here to do it. And if you don't know the words, that doesn't matter either. The words are on the screen.

The events are family friendly, with couples and kids filling up the theater, some even wearing costumes.

The Castro Theatre does a sing-along about once a month.
