7-Year-Old Piano Prodigy Stuns Travelers At Oakland International Airport

SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) -- He's only in grade school, but he's already mastered the piano.

San Leandro resident Christopher Nguyen, 7, can be seen charming passing Oakland International Airport travelers with his electrifying piano-playing skills.

Using a digital keyboard, he said the airport is just another place for him to practice. And the money he gets from tips? It goes toward college tuition, piano lessons for his siblings, and what he's really hoping for -- a grand piano.

The third grader, who has been playing for two years, said he got so good, so fast because "I read the notes."

Maggie Nguyen, Christopher's mom, said he was listening to music in the car when he first started calling out notes.

"My husband was like 'What is that? Is he doing the right thing?'" she said. When they went home, they tested it out, and sure enough, Christopher had identified the right notes.
