$630,000 Apartments Under Construction Now A Pile Of Burning Wood And Ash

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- The 5-alarm fire that destroyed a building under construction Tuesday evening took down 172 future apartment units in one wing of the Mission Bay 360 Project near AT&T park.

The six-story building already had drywall and windows in the first two floors, and contractors were putting in doors Tuesday before the flames broke out, engulfing the entire building, and causing a partial collapse of the structure.

The units were reportedly priced at $630,000 each, in an overall waterfront development worth $227 million.

Approximately 360 total units were planned in two wings, but it's unclear whether both wings are destroyed or if one of the buildings can be salvaged.
