6.8 Quake: 3rd Earthquake In 3 Days Rocks Solomon Islands

SOLOMON ISLANDS (CBS SF) -- The U.S. Geological Survey says a 6.8 magnitude earthquake has struck the Solomon Islands, a day after a 6.0 quake and two days after a 6.9 quake hit the same region..

Friday's quake hit just before 2 p.m. Pacific time.

The strong tremor was just about 4 miles under the earth's crust, a very shallow earthquake.

It hit about 125 miles from Kirakira, Solomon Islands.

There is no tsunami threat from this earthquake, according to NOAA's Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
