56-Year-Old Former Oakland Athletic Signs Deal To Play Baseball In The East Bay Again

PITTSBURG (CBS SF) -- 56-year-old former Oakland Athletic Tony Phillips, who played in the 1989 Battle of the Bay World Series, is coming back to professional baseball with a contract to play for the Pittsburg Diamonds.

The team announced Phillips' contract over the weekend, the Contra Costa Times reported.

Phillips played briefly for two independent teams, and hopes the deal will help propel him into a contract with a team in the Dominican Republic.

Phillips spent most of his career with the A's, where he played his last big league game in 1999.
