5 People Escape From House Fire In Monte Sereno

MONTE SERENO (CBS SF) -- Five people escaped from a 2-alarm house fire in Monte Sereno Tuesday morning but their cat remains missing.

Firefighters first received reports of the fire at 18081 Los Gatos Saratoga Road around 2:30 a.m., according to a Santa Clara County Fire Department dispatcher.

Crews initially noticed smoke and flames coming from the older home's second story. The second floor quickly became fully engulfed before the roof collapsed.

One of the residents was woken up by some loud pops and got everyone out and remains stunned this morning.

"My house is burnt down, everything I own is inside," said resident Kristina Recia. "We're just hoping the cat got out too. "

Firefighters say if the cat did get out, they typically run far away and do not return for quite some time.
