6-Alarm Grass Fire In Pacifica Contained, Roads Reopen

PACIFICA (KCBS) — Roads have reopened and a Pacifica neighborhood is getting back to normal after a six-alarm vegetation fire forced the evacuation of about 80 homes early Monday morning, fire officials said.

According to authorities, the fire began about 3:35 a.m. in the canyon between Rockaway Beach and Fassler Avenues.

Sixty-four units of the Seacrest Townhomes near the top of Fassler Avenue were being evacuated along with about 30 other homes.

The fire started behind a home on Fassler Avenue and Estella Road and burned straight down the canyon.

Swirling winds are blowing in from the east towards the west which is unusual for this time of year and is driving the grass fire, officials told KCBS.

Fire units from Daly City and other neighboring agencies were on the scene.

There have been no reports of injuries.

UPDATE 7:34 a.m.: A fire official told KCBS that the fire is contained and is no longer considered a threat to nearby homes. Hand crews will remain to cut down the perimeter around the burn zone with chain saws.
