49ers Star Bowman Lost For The Season

SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) – San Francisco linebacker NaVorro Bowman is out for the season with a torn left Achilles tendon.

The team announced the news Monday, a day after Bowman left a game against Dallas with the injury.

Bowman suffered the non-contact injury in the third quarter Sunday against Dallas. He had to be helped off the field and was taken by cart to the locker room.

He is one of the few remaining links to San Francisco's success earlier this decade that featured three straight trips to the NFC title game and one Super Bowl appearance.

Bowman blew out his left knee in the 2013 NFC championship game and missed the entire following season. He worked his way back last season and looked to be back in top form this year before the injury.

He missed the entire 2014 season and only really began rounding back into his all-pro form midway through the 2015 season.

Bowman accounted for 154 total tackles in 2015 with 116 being solo stops. This season, he had 35 tackles, 24 of them solo, a sack and an interception.
