49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick To Train With Super Bowl Champ Kurt Warner In Offseason

SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) – After a rough season on the field, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick will study with former Super Bowl champion and two-time NFL MVP Kurt Warner this offseason.

According to the Sacramento Bee and 49ers beat writer Matt Barrows, Kaepernick has decided to train at EXOS in the Phoenix area, where he will study with Warner and quarterbacks coach Dennis Gile, who played in the NFL, Canadian Football League and Arena League.

Warner was named MVP of the 2000 Super Bowl, leading the St. Louis Rams to victory over the Tennessee Titans. He retired in 2009 and is currently working as an analyst for the NFL Network.

Barrows reports, Kaepernick is expected to arrive in Phoenix next week and train there until the start of the 49ers' offseason program in March. Warner is expected to be on hand a few days each week to work with Kaepernick on film study, charting plays, seven-on-seven drills and other mental aspects of the game.

Several NFL wide receivers are expected to train at EXOS this offseason. The facility, formerly known as Athletes Performance Institute, is also where numerous college players prepare for the NFL draft.

Kaepernick's third season as a starter was his roughest, as he ended the year with a 60.5 completion percentage and 86.4 passer rating, his lowest since becoming the team's starter. He was also sacked 52 times, more than any other quarterback in the league.
