Kaepernick Says He's Criticized Because Of 'Stereotypes' And 'Prejudice'

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - San Francisco 49er quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who recently inked a $126 million contract extension, says "stereotypes and prejudice" are to blame for criticism he faces as the leader of the 49ers offense.

Former NFL quarterback Chris Simms, who characterized criticism as "unfair," asked Kaepernick about his doubters during an interview for Bleacher Report.

"I think between the tattoos, the way I dress, the way I talk, people don't think they should go together with a franchise quarterback, or the person that's leading the team," said Kaepernick. "At the end of the day, you have to look at 'are they knowledgeable? Are they capable?'"

Of the contract, Kaepernick said "I think it's a great deal for both sides."

Simms says the deal was "team friendly" because much of the $126 is not guaranteed. Kaepernick agreed that that flexibility should help the 49ers keep a strong team around him.
