$45 Escape Lounge At Oakland Airport Offers Travelers Food, Drink, Wifi

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- As airline travelers grow accustomed to paying extra for baggage, legroom and inflight dining, now they can pay for more amenities before they even board the plane.

Oakland International Airport has created the Escape Lounge at OAK, offering travelers unlimited food, drink and wifi for a $45 entry fee.

Developed by MAG USA, there are already Escape Lounges in Minneapolis, Connecticut and the UK.

In its promotional video, MAG USA describes it as, "A place out of the bustle, but at the heart of where you want to be."

The airport tapped Oakland chef Chris Pastena (Chop Bar, Calavera, Longomare) to create a buffet of locally-sourced, gourmet food.

"I find myself very lucky... It's an honor to represent the local (food scene) in this way," Pastena told The East Bay Times.

Passengers who pre-book a spot at Escape online can save $5.
