Drowned Man In Pacifica Identified

PACIFICA (CBS SF/AP) -- Authorities identified the man who drowned while surfing with his son off a Pacifica beach on Monday as a 60-year-old resident of that city.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports Thomas Ormsby was found unresponsive Monday in the water off Pacifica's Linda Mar Beach.

Other surfers told police that they saw a surfboard fly into the air, and then spotted Ormsby floating in the water. He died at a hospital.

Police Capt. Daniel Steidle says Ormsby's adult son had been surfing at the same spot that day, but did not witness what happened to his father and did not know he was hurt until he saw the other surfers gathered on the beach.

Officials said Wednesday that the cause of death is under investigation.
