VACAVILLE (CBS SF) -- A 40-acre grassland and pasture fire in unincorporated Solano County near Vacaville was controlled around 3 p.m., Vacaville Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Doug Rogers said.

The fire started around 1:20 p.m. at the north entrance of Travis Air Force Base and spread east into canals, an orchard and an alfalfa field where firefighters attacked it from the flanks of the blaze, Rogers said.

Roads in the area, including Canon, Meridian, McCrory and Northgate, have reopened and no homes were threatened, Solano County sheriff's Deputy Christine Castillo said.

Firefighters from Fairfield, Vacaville, Dixon, Montezuma, Travis Air Force and the California Medical Facility in Vacaville also responded to the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
