3 Injured In Multi-Vehicle Collision On Southbound I-680 In Fremont

FREMONT (CBS SF) -- One person suffered major injuries and two suffered moderate injuries in a crash this afternoon on Interstate Highway 680 in Fremont, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The crash was reported at 12:04 p.m. on southbound Highway 680 just north of Mission Boulevard.

An SUV and red pickup truck collided before a box truck crashed into a center guardrail, CHP spokesman Officer Tyler Hahn said.

CHP officials initially said a box truck crashed into a center divider and collided with three other vehicles, including a red Toyota pickup, gray Kia and SUV.

The person with major injuries suffered cuts to their face and was bleeding a lot, Hahn said. All three victims were taken to a hospital.

A Sig-alert was issued at 12:18 p.m. because the high-occupancy vehicle lanes and two other lanes were blocked.

All lanes have since reopened. The HOV lanes were closed until 2:49 p.m. so Caltrans crews could inspect the guardrail, Hahn said.

At least two vehicles sustained major damage.
