4-Alarm Fire Burns 3 Homes Near Mills College In Oakland

OAKLAND (CBS SF) – Firefighters in Oakland battled a four-alarm blaze that burned three homes near Mills College Thursday evening.

According to authorities, crews responded to the fire on the 4700 block of Redding Street in the Maxwell Park neighborhood around 7:45 p.m.

Cellphone video provided to KPIX 5 showed one of the homes completely engulfed in flames. Witnesses to the fire said embers were flying everywhere.

A man who lived at the home said he was with his wife and son inside when they realized something was on fire and had to scramble to get out.

One power line was knocked down and landed on one of the fire trucks, but no residents or firefighters were injured in the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
