Steve Glazer Fails To Stay In East Bay Assembly Dist. 16 Race
Alameda (CBS SF) — In one of the highest-spending elections in the state, Democrat Steve Glazer failed to stay in the race for the East Bay's 16th Assembly District leaving Dublin Mayor Tim Sbranti set to challenge Republican attorney Catharine Baker, who kept a firm lead over all three her opponents, for the coveted seat in November.
With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Baker had 36.5 percent of the vote. Sbranti came in with 29.6 to 22.5 percent lead over Orinda Vice Mayor Glazer, a longtime political strategist who lobbied aggressively for a ban on BART strikes. Sbranti, meanwhile, had remained steadfast defending workers right to strike.
Danville Mayor Newell Arnerich had 11.4 percent of the vote.
The top two vote-getters will face off in the November 4 general election. It was expected Baker would earn one of the spots as Democratic voters would be choosing among three candidates.

The 16th District, which covers Alameda and Contra Costa counties and extends from Berkeley to the Tri-Valley, is currently held by Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan who will be termed out at the end of the year.
