3 Young Transients Charged With Killing Backpacker, Yoga Instructor Plead Not Guilty

SAN RAFAEL (CBS SF) — Two San Francisco men and a San Rafael woman pleaded not guilty in Marin County Superior Court in San Rafael Thursday morning to killing a Marin County therapist and a Canadian tourist in Golden Gate Park last month.

A preliminary hearing date was scheduled for May 9, Chief Deputy District Attorney Barry Borden said.

Morrison Haze Lampley, 23, Sean Michael Angold, 24, both of San Francisco, and Lila Scott Alligood, 18, of San Rafael, are charged with the Oct. 5 murder of therapist Steven Carter, 67, of Fairfax in Marin County, and Audrey Carey, 23, a tourist from Quebec, Canada, who was found dead in the San Francisco park on Oct. 2.

The three defendants also are charged with special circumstances of lying in wait, multiple murder and murder during commission of a robbery.

They face life in prison without parole or the death penalty if convicted.

The defendants allegedly were armed during the murders but Lampley is identified in court documents as the shooter.

Lampley also is named as the defendant who shot Carter's female Doberman Pinscher, who was still leashed to Carter when he was slain. He also is charged with animal cruelty.

Court documents state that the defendants stole Carter's Volkswagen Jetta and camping equipment from Carey, including a tent, daypack, tarp, and sleeping bag, as well as airline tickets and a passport.

The three were arrested Oct. 7 outside a dining hall in Portland, Oregon, after investigators traced them there with the GPS in Carter's car.
