3-Year-Old Finds CHP Officer's Gun, Shoots Teen Brother In The Foot

STOCKTON (KPIX 5) -- A 3-year-old boy used a California Highway Patrol officer's gun to accidentally shoot his teenage brother.

It happened at their Stockton home. The officer is the boys' stepfather and was home when his gun went off.

Investigators said the child found the gun in a closet during a game of hide and seek and shot his brother in the foot.

Neighbor Alejandra Carvajal said the incident is cause for concern.

"It's hard to believe having kids in the home and being able to have guns," said Carvajal. "They shouldn't have access."

Neighbors said the officer recently moved into the neighborhood.

The CHP said they will release a statement on the shooting later this week.
