Rain returns to San Francisco Bay Area with 3 incoming storm systems

Three weather systems are expected to bring several rounds of light to heavy rains in the Bay Area this week, forecasters said early Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, the first system is expected to bring light to moderate rain on Wednesday into Thursday, while the second and third systems is likely more impactful and will affect the region on Friday into early next week. 

Forecasters said periods of moderate to heavy rain and gusty winds are expected during the second and third systems arriving Friday and continuing through the weekend. 

Residents are advised to expect minor flooding and downed tree branches. Coastal ranges may experience four to six inches of rain, and one to two inches for most of the lower elevations. Gusts of at least 25 mph are also likely to move through the region, the NWS said.

However, forecasters do not expect these systems to be as strong as the weather disturbances felt by the Bay Area earlier this month.

Meanwhile, a dense fog advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Monday for parts of the North Bay and southern Salinas Valley.

The National Weather Service advised of hazardous driving conditions. Motorists are urged motorists to slow down, use headlights and leave ample distance ahead, since visibility is limited to one-quarter mile or less in dense fog.

The areas affected are North Bay interior valleys and Southern Salinas Valley, Arroyo Seco and Lake San Antonio.

A frost advisory expired at 9 a.m. for the Eastern Santa Clara Hills-Santa Lucia Mountains and Los Padres National Forest-Mountains of San Benito and Interior Monterey County including Pinnacles National Park.
