3 Pedestrians, 1 Bicyclist Struck By SF Cars Overnight

SAN FRANCISCO (KBS) — A man was struck and injured in San Francisco's Financial District on Tuesday morning, police said. The pedestrian collision was the third such incident in thirteen hours.

The man, attempting to catch a green light, ran across the crosswalk at Sacramento Street about 6 a.m. when he was struck by a woman driving a Dodge Charger as she made a left turn on Battery Street, Officer Robert Kellogg said.

The man, bruised but conscious, was transported to hospital in an ambulance.

Kellogg told KCBS that he's seen more of these types of collisions.

"This [street] looks like it's wide open in the morning. It's five or six in the morning, you think you can just drive down the street but there are people hurrying to get to work too," he said.

On Monday, at about 5:15 p.m., a driver struck a five-year-old boy and his babysitter at 37th Avenue and Fulton Street sending both to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver was cited in that collision.

Later at 8:45 p.m., a taxi driver struck a cyclist at Fifth and Market Streets. Information about cyclist's condition has not been released.

There were 21 pedestrian fatalities in 2013—with six in December. Five people have been killed this year while crossing streets—three of them on Van Ness Avenue.
