3 Alarm Fire Knocked Down Near Balboa Park BART Station; Seven Families Displaced

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - Firefighters contained a three-alarm structure fire in San Francisco Tuesday morning that left 23 people displaced, just blocks from City College of San Francisco.

The fire was initially called in at 12:34 a.m. in the 300 block of Ocean Avenue, less than a block from the Bay Area Rapid Transit Balboa Park Station.

San Francisco Assistant Fire Chief Dave Franklin said that when firefighters arrived, they found a large fire in a gas station, which then spread to two apartment buildings nearby.

The fire was controlled at 1:23 a.m. and although no injuries were reported, seven families, including 23 people and two dogs were displaced, Franklin said.

The American Red Cross as called to help find shelter, according to San Francisco fire dispatchers.
