2nd Fire In As Many Days In Livermore Home Investigated As Arson

LIVERMORE (CBS SF) -- A fire in a single-family home in Livermore Saturday morning is being investigated as arson, fire officials said.

The fire was the second in two days at the same home, according to officials with the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire in the 2700 block of Kennedy Street at 5:34 a.m., fire officials said.

Upon arrival, officials said fire crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof and attic area of the home.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze within 30 minutes but not before it caused an estimated $200,000 in damages, fire officials said.

No one was home at the time of the fire and officials said a neighbor called 911 to report the blaze.

There were no injuries reported.

Fire officials said the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department, the Livermore Police Department, the Alameda County Arson Task Force and the Alameda County District Attorney's Office are conducting an extensive investigation into the cause of the fire.

Fire crews responded at 5:50 p.m. on Friday to the same home on a report of a kitchen fire, fire officials said.

Firefighters arrived to find light smoke coming from the home and were able to extinguish the small blaze within about 10 minutes.

The homeowner reportedly told investigators he had returned home after being out for several hours and found the house filled with smoke.

He left and called 911, fire officials said.

The home sustained extensive smoke damage and the resident reportedly made arrangements to stay elsewhere, according to fire officials.

Damage for the first blaze was estimated at $20,000.

There were no injuries reported.

The fire was deemed accidental by firefighters.
