21-Year-Old Man Connected To Three Palo Alto Burglaries

PALO ALTO (CBS SF) -- Police on Tuesday arrested a man suspected of a trio of recent home burglaries in Palo Alto.

James Chester Broughton, 21, was arrested on suspicion of three felony counts of residential burglary and two felony counts of possession of stolen property, police said.

On Sunday at around 1:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a residential burglary in the 1400 block of Emerson Street.

The victim told police she returned home from a multi-day vacation to find her home ransacked and several items missing from the residence.

Investigators determined the suspect likely entered the home through an unlocked door, police said.

On Monday around 4 p.m., officers responded to a report of two residential burglaries.

The first occurred in the 500 block of Miramonte Avenue, and the second in the 1600 block of Castilleja Avenue. The burglaries occurred blocks from one another.

In each case, the victims reported returning home to find the place ransacked and items missing from the residence, police said.

Investigators determined the suspect entered the homes through unlocked windows.

Investigators developed information Broughton was responsible for the burglaries, and he was taken into custody Tuesday.

Police said Broughton was found to be in possession of property stolen in the burglaries.
