Fast-Growing Wildfire Scorches 1,700 Acres Near Lake Berryessa

WINTERS, Yolo County (CBS SF) -- Fire crews are battling a new wildfire burning near Lake Berryessa in Yolo County, according to Cal Fire.

The fire, being referred to by Cal Fire as the Cold Fire, broke out late Tuesday afternoon near Monticello Dam Road on the east side of the lake.

By 10 p.m. on Tuesday, the fire had grown to 1,700 acres, according to fire officials. Smoke from the fire is visible from many parts of the Bay Area.

Evacuations are being ordered for Canyon Creek Resort in Winters, Cal Fire officials said.

Due to the fire, Highway 128 is closed eastbound at Monticello Dam Road and westbound at Pleasant Valley Road. Currently there is no estimated time of opening the highway.
