2 Young Yosemite Campers Sleeping In Tent Killed By Falling Tree Limb

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK (CBS SF) -- Two minors sleeping in a tent at a campground in Yosemite National Park were killed Friday morning by a falling tree limb, according to park officials.

The incident happened at around 5:00 a.m. at the Upper Pines Campground in Yosemite Valley.

A limb from an oak tree fell and hit the tent in which the two minors were sleeping, the park service said. Park rangers responded to the campground to provide medical assistance, but both were dead on the scene.

"Our thoughts are with the families as they grieve this tragedy," said park Superintendent Don Neubacher in a statement.

The identities of the victims were not immediately released and the incident remained under investigation.
