2 Women Critically Hurt In Antioch Wrong-Way Crash

ANTIOCH (CBS SF) -- Two women are in critical condition after their vehicle suddenly veered into oncoming traffic and collided with another car in Antioch Sunday night, police said.

Police responded to a report of a collision at 7:25 p.m. on James Donlon Boulevard at Blythe Drive, said Antioch police Lt. John VanderKlugt.

VanderKlugt said the two women were riding in a small compact car when the driver -- for an undetermined reason -- lost control of the vehicle and crossed over into the westbound lane.

The driver of a sports utility vehicle hit the compact car on the driver's side, VanderKlugt said.

The two occupants of the compact car were transported to the hospital with severe injuries and were in critical condition, VanderKlugt said.

The two occupants of the SUV were transported to the hospital as a precaution only, he said.

VanderKlugt said there was no indication that alcohol was involved.

As of 10:30 p.m., VanderKlugt said there were still some officers on scene.
