2 San Francisco Entrepreneurs Develop Medical Marijuana-Of-The-Month Club

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) – California's quasi-legal medical marijuana market can be hard to negotiate for the newbie. Two San Francisco 20-somethings have started a company that delivers hand-selected marijuana to customers each month.

Derek Dahmer and Dane Pieri started the company, called Marvina. It's run out of their apartment, a place where marijuana grows as house plants.

"It's kind of like picking out wine at a supermarket. Most people have no idea, and they just pick the one that has a nice label," Pieri told KPIX 5.

Every month, Marvina puts together a special box. In January, the box is heavy on the Kush.

"Generally Kushes sort of have origins in ancient strains from Afghanistan, Pakistan and India," Pieri said.

When asked if it was legal, Dahmler said, "We work directly with dispensaries who verify your medical card and actually do the deliveries themselves. So we never actually handle the pot ourselves."

Marijuana deliveries through Marvina cost about $100 a month. The company just started business two months ago, and so far, about a hundred people have signed up.

Right now the service is only available in San Francisco, but the company is interested in expanding.
