2 Injured On Roller Coaster At California's Great America

SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) -- Two people were injured at California's Great America in Santa Clara Friday night.

Around 8:10 p.m. Friday an employee at California's Great America was struck by a train on the Flight Deck ride as it returned to the station, according to a statement from park spokesman Roger Ross.

One person riding the roller coaster also reported a hand injury. Both individuals were transported to a hospital for medical treatment, according to California's Great America.

A witness told KPIX 5 that it looked like a park worker at the Flight Deck ride was attempting to retrieve a cellphone that had fallen, then was struck either by the ride or a person in the ride.

Park officials say they are cooperating with the local and state agencies investigating Friday night's accident, and the Flight Deck will remain closed for the duration of the investigation.
