Wind-Driven Grass Fire Burns Homes In Fairfield

FAIRFIELD (CBS SF) -- Two houses and a detached garage were damaged Friday afternoon in a wind-driven, four-alarm fire in Fairfield, according to police.

Officers responded to a vegetation fire in the vicinity of East Tabor Avenue and North Texas Street around 4 p.m., and found grass burning along a nearby trail.

Strong winds pushed the fire toward a shed, a fence and a number of backyards so they evacuated 10 homes in the 200 block of Santa Barbara Way.

Firefighters arrived on scene and brought the incident under control by 5:21 p.m., police said.

Two homes were damaged, one severely, as well as a detached garage. There were no injuries reported, however, according to police.

Four individuals were initially detained, but police later determined they had been trying to help put the fire out.

Police and firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire and where it started. They said no arrests had been made as of Friday evening.
