2 dead, 1 wounded following Richmond Friday-night shooting

RICHMOND -- Two people were killed and another was wounded in a shooting in a commercial district of Richmond, police said Saturday.

The city's ShotSpotter gunfire detection system alerted officers to gunshots in the area of 23rd Street about 7:45 p.m. Friday, the police department said on its Facebook page.

At the same time, police began receiving calls that a shooting had occurred in the 900 block of 23rd Street. Officers were dispatched and reached the scene within two minutes, police said.

One person was found dead at the scene. Two victims were taken to local hospitals, where one subsequently died and the other was treated, police said.

Police said, the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident and there was no threat to public safety.
