2 Arrested In Central Valley Police Shooting Caught On Camera During Ride-Along

MADERA, Calif. (AP) -- Police have arrested two people for evading officers and firing more than a dozen shots at a police cruiser in the central California city of Madera.

KFSN reported Wednesday that police arrested 26-year-old Serena Arroyo, who they say was the driver, and 33-year-old Thomas Garcia, who they say was the shooter. A third suspect, identified as James Cruz, is still at large.

The shooting happened early Sunday morning after Officer Julian Garcia attempted to stop a sports utility vehicle for a broken light.

The driver sped away and then shots were fired at the police car. The officer had a woman interested in police work on the ride-along.

Two shots smashed the windshield, narrowly missing the woman and the police officer. The officer was not injured. The woman was hurt by flying glass.
