2-Alarm Fire Burns Boarded-Up Home In San Jose Next To Guadalupe Freeway

SAN JOSE (BCN) -- Crews rescued one person Friday morning from a fire at boarded-up home near downtown San Jose, fire officials said.

The two-alarm blaze was reported about 6:15 a.m. at the house in the 300 block of W. St. John Street near the Guadalupe Freeway.

Crews found flames coming from the home when they arrived. Fire officials said initially that someone rescued from the blaze was hospitalized, but later reported that the person refused to be taken to a hospital.

The fire was under control at 7:45 a.m. The cause was under investigation.

The home is surrounded by a chain-link fence and had been boarded up, but someone had pried open the back door, a fire department spokesperson said.
