Update: firefighter hurt in 2-alarm fire at San Jose Japantown building

SAN JOSE -- One firefighter was injured Thursday in a two-alarm fire at a commercial building in San Jose's Japantown, authorities said.

The San Jose Fire Department said the fire at a two-story commercial building was reported at 10:44 a.m. on the 100 block of Jackson Street. It was upgraded to a second alarm at 10:57 a.m.

The fire was knocked down at 11:39 a.m. and declared under control at 12:18 p.m. One firefighter was taken to the hospital for heat-related illness, the department said.

Police closed Jackson Street to traffic between 3rd and 4th Streets and people were urged to avoid the area. 

There building was cleared when firefighters arrived and no other injuries were reported.

There was no immediate word on what caused the fire.
