17-Year-Old Dies One Week After Being Struck By Minivan In San Rafael
SAN RAFAEL (CBS SF) -- A 17-year-old girl who was jogging on a San Rafael road when she was struck by a minivan last week, has died, according to police.
On Monday the teen's parents made the decision to end life support after consulting with doctors, police said.
On June 2, police received a report at 7:11 p.m. of a female lying in the roadway on Point San Pedro Road, near Manderly Road, according to police.
When officers arrived, they found the 17-year-old suffering major injuries.
The girl had been jogging west on the sidewalk of Point San Pedro Road when she went into the roadway to avoid a recently fallen tree in her path, according to police.
The driver of the minivan had been traveling west in the number two lane of Point San Pedro Road, when the vehicle struck the teen, police said.
The driver stopped and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
Officers determined that the driver, a 69-year-old San Rafael man, had consumed an alcoholic beverage. The driver's blood alcohol level at the scene was .02 percent, which is below the legal limit, according to police.
After a field sobriety test, officers concluded the diver was not impaired at the time of the accident, police said.
