14 Dogs Rescued From Crowded Crates Stacked In Monterey Car

MONTEREY (CBS SF) - More than a dozen dogs are safe after being rescued from a vehicle in Monterey County.

The 14 Pomeranians and Chihuahuas were found stuffed in dirty crates yesterday inside a car on the streets of Monterey. Some of the seven crates were occupied by four dogs and were so crowded that the animals couldn't stand up straight.

The dogs owner reportedly told the SPCA that she planned to sell the puppies.

The animals are being checked out by SPCA veterinarians.

"We are thankful to the many Monterey residents who reported this case and her various locations to the SPCA as the situation was mobile, the suspect had been actively evading humane officers," the SPCA said in a statement.
