1 Killed In Highway 84 Crash In Sunol That Prompted 2 Helicopters For Victims

SUNOL (CBS SF) -- At least one person died and two helicopters were been called to airlift people injured in a collision Sunday evening on state Highway 84 in Sunol, an unincorporated area in Alameda County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers responded to a report of a collision involving at least two vehicles in the westbound lanes of Highway 84 at 6:17 p.m., said CHP Officer Damian Cistaro.

Cistaro said at least one person was pronounced dead at the scene.

CHP landed two helicopters to airlift other injured parties to area hospitals, Cistaro said, adding he didn't yet know how many people were involved in the collision.

Cistaro said the cars may already be off of the roadway but a Sig-alert was issued at 6:59 p.m. for all westbound lanes on Highway 84 so CHP could land the helicopters.

The roadway was expected to reopen around 7:30 p.m., he said.
