Fremont Shooting Injures 1; Teen Arrested On Attempted Murder Charge After Hours-Long Standoff
FREMONT (CBS SF) -- One person suffered possible life-threatening injuries in a shooting in Fremont on Wednesday morning, and the subsequent investigation led to an hours-long standoff at a home in a different part of the city, according to police.
The shooting was reported just before 11 a.m. on the 5700 block of Lemke Pl., and several people have been detained in the incident, the Fremont Police Department said.
Officers later surrounded a home on the 43000 block of Ellsworth St. in Fremont's Mission San Jose neighborhood. The home and surrounding area were secure and there was no threat in the immediate area, police said. No lockdown was issued.
After several hours, SWAT officers broke a window at the home and launched a drone through the window.
A 15-year-old was arrested in the shooting and was booked for attempted murder and firearms possession, police said Wednesday night. Detectives are continuing to work on identifying and arresting additional suspects.
Wednesday's shooting was not believed to be related to another shooting in the East Bay community a day earlier. No one was injured in the Tuesday shooting that happened on the 4100 block of Broadmoor Ct. at about 4:40 p.m.
Neighbors told KPIX 5 that the home has been the site of previous police calls and nuisance reports.
