Yuba County Deputy Accused Of Transporting Hundreds Of Pounds Of Pot To Pennsylvania

MARYSVILLE (CBS13) – A Yuba County deputy was arrested while on vacation on suspicion of delivering hundreds of pounds of marijuana.

The sheriff's office says 37-year-old Christopher M. Heath of Bangor was on vacation in Pennsylvania when he was arrested on Monday. According to the Appeal Democrat, Heath is accused of transporting 200 pounds of marijuana to Pennsylvania from Northern California.

It is unclear what prompted the investigation into Heath. The case is being handled by the York County Multijurisdictional Drug Enforcement Unit in York, Pennsylvania.

Heath has since posted $1 million bond and has been released from custody. He is facing felony charges of delivering a controlled substance and conspiracy.

The Yuba County Sheriff's Office has put Heath on administrative leave.

Heath was originally hired by Yuba County as a correctional officer in November 2003, the sheriff's office says. He has worked as a deputy since being promoted back in January 2007.
