Yuba City Church Volunteer Arrested On Sex Charges Out Of Arizona

YUBA CITY (CBS13) - A Yuba City church volunteer is facing sexual assault charges in Arizona.

Hermenegildo Huizar-Vera was arrested by U.S. Marshal's on March 25. Investigators say the alleged crimes happened in 2016, but wouldn't exactly specify when.

The Diocese of Sacramento says the suspect was a volunteer at Saint Isidore Catholic Church, where he taught music. He also reportedly played the piano at a few church services.

Huizar-Vera was not an employee of the church, the diocese notes, but did undergo fingerprinting and a background check - which he passed.

He was booked into Yuba County Jail and is now awaiting extradition.
